2021 Jeep Wrangler vs 2021 Ford Bronco

The 2021 Jeep Wrangler is the ultimate adventure SUV but with the arrival of the Ford Bronco, there are whispers that the Jeep Wrangler could lose its crown. Personally, we find this unlikely given the long history of the Jeep Wrangler in Calgary, but just in case, we've compiled this Jeep Wrangler vs Ford Bronco to give you a better look at each model to decide for yourself. Keep reading to find out more!

The 2021 Jeep Wrangler

The 2021 Jeep Wrangler is set to begin production in August 2020 and promises an all-new colour called Snazzberry to your available paint options. It's getting a bunch of new features in order to compete with the 2021 Ford Bronco, including a plug-in hybrid Wrangler call the 4Xe. The plug-in electric hybrid will be paired with the 2.0 Turbo four-cylinder plus hybrid components for a powerful 375 horsepower and approximately 40 km of all-electric range. It will be paired with the 8-speed automatic transmission and could even be more capable off-road thanks to the instant torque of the electric motor. There will also be more infotainment, safety, and off-road equipment.

For those that love the variety of Wrangler trims, 2021 will see the addition of the Islander and 80th special editions. The Rubicon will receive an available full-time four-wheel drive for maximal off-roading ease. You'll also have the optional forward-facing camera. Sure, the Wrangler won't provide as comfortable a ride as the Grand Cherokee or the Compass, but what it lacks in comfort it more than makes up for in off-road capability and customizable options like 2-door and 4-door configurations and a removable top.

Outside of the Wrangler 4Xe, all Wranglers have the standard 3.6 L V6 engine with 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. This engine is also available with the eTorque mild hybrid system for improved fuel economy and comes with either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission. A 2-door option is available on the Sport, Sport S, and Rubicon trims while the 4-door is also available with the Sahara trim. Optional on both body styles is a turbocharged 2.0 L 4-cylinder engine with 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Your 4-door Wrangler has the additional option of a turbocharged 3.0 L diesel V6 with 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are only available with the 8-speed automatic.

The 2021 Ford Bronco

The Ford Bronco tries hard to compete with the Jeep Wrangle by also offering a 2-door and 4-door option as well as removable doors and top. Each Bronco series is designed around the specific type of adventure you're after to give you a customized vehicle for your lifestyle. Under the hood, you'll find the standard 2.3 L EcoBoost 4x4 engine with 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque or the available 2.7 L EcoBoost with 4x4, 310 horsepower, and 400 lb-ft of torque. Pair your engine options with the class-exclusive 7-speed manual transmission or the available segment-first SelectShift 10-speed automotive with impressive low gears for off-roading and a high top-end gear for more fuel efficiency. There's also an advanced 4x4 system that features a 2-speed Electromechanical Transfer Case with an auto mode to select between 2H and 4H.
